Baptism is reserved for those who responded and enjoy the saving work of Jesus. Therefore, as a disciple of Jesus we joyfully obey Christ’s command to be baptized as a testimony to God and others. A believer should be fully immersed in water, in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is a visual and symbolic demonstration of a believers union with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection.
As a symbol, baptism illustrates a number of significant realities:
- Christ’s death and resurrection
- The disciple’s union with Christ in His death and resurrection
- The new life in which a disciple walks
- Cleansing and washing away of sin
